SIMI’s Biography (Age)
Born as Simisola Bolatito Adeola Opeyemi Oreoluwa Ogunleye on April 19, 1988, the Ondo state indigene is the last of four children and the only girl, consequently, she was a tomboy while growing up. Simi was born in Ojuelegba, a suburb of Surulere, Lagos state, Nigeria, and also raised by a single mum following her parents were separated when she was just 9.
She penned her first song at the age of 10 and began singing at the age of 16. As a result of her passion for music, she joined her church’s teenage choir. Probably due to her church background, she began her career in the music industry as a gospel singer, with the release of her debut studio album in 2008 titled Ogaju .
A few years later, however, Simi switched over to singing secular songs and got her major breakthrough in the mainstream music industry in 2014 after she released Tiff under a record label, X3M Music which she was signed to in the same year. The song was nominated in two categories at The Headies 2015.
Since she was signed to X3M Music, Simi has released hits including – Tiff, Jamb Question, Love Don’t Care, Smile For Me and also featured in a number of hit records such as ‘ Soldier’, with Falz, ‘No Forget ’, with Adekunle Gold , ‘Orire ’, with Legendury Beatz and a few others.
In 2016, Simi released an E.P with Falz, titled Chemistry and followed it up in September 2017 with her Sophomore album “Simisola” which was a hit, making it at number 5 on the Billboard World Music charts. The album also debuted at number 1 on both the Apple Music and iTunes chart and held its position for three weeks.
On Feb 10, 2017, Simi was endorsed by one of Nigeria’s telecoms firms, Etisalat, as its ambassador. The songstress is a graduate of Mass communication from Covenant University.
